U.S. sees increase in truck accident deaths

Truck accidents can cost people their lives. Unfortunately, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics indicate that, last year, such accidents took a particularly high amount of lives as compared to other years in the recent past.

According to this data, the U.S. saw 4,067 large-truck-related deaths out on the roads last year. This is 4.1 percent higher than the total from the previous year. It is also the highest annual total the country has had since 2008.

Another thing the recent statistics illustrate is that traffic crashes involving large trucks can be particularly tough on the occupants of the non-truck vehicles involved. Of the people killed in large-truck-involved accidents in the U.S. in 2015, nearly three-fourths of them (73.5 percent) were occupants of vehicles other than the involved truck.

The recent federal statistics did not get into the causes of the fatal truck accidents.

What caused a fatal truck accident and who was at fault for it are far from irrelevant things. For one, such information could provide some closure to the families of those killed. Also, such information could possibly provide insights on how to prevent similar accidents in the future. Additionally, cause and fault issues can impact the liability situation, which can have major ramifications for the families of victims.

So, uncovering accident cause and where fault lies after a fatal truck accident can be very important for families. Skilled personal injury attorneys can assist families of fatal truck crash victims with their efforts to uncover such details.
